Understanding HDF

HDF vs Standard MDF — The Density Difference

HDF (High-Density Fibreboard) is manufactured using the same wood fibre and resin process as MDF, but compacted to a significantly higher density — producing a harder, more impact-resistant board.

FAQ

HDF Boards — Common Questions

HDF (High-Density Fibreboard) is manufactured using the same wood fibre and resin process as MDF but at a higher compression pressure, producing a density of 800–900+ kg/m³ versus standard MDF at 650–780 kg/m³. The result is a harder surface, better impact resistance, and superior machinability for fine CNC work and door skin applications.

Yes — 3–6mm HDF is commonly used as the wear-layer substrate in laminate flooring systems. Its high density ensures dimensional stability under foot traffic. It is not suitable for direct wet environments unless laminated with appropriate moisture-resistant surface.

Yes — 2.5mm and 3mm HDF are specifically stocked for door skin applications. These thin sheets are pressed onto door frames to create flush, paintable door skins used in modular interior door manufacturing.

Yes. Our beam saw service cuts HDF to your exact dimensions. For large runs (50+ sheets) contact us for factory cut quantities. For smaller jobs our in-house cutting is available — see our Cut-to-Size service page for details.
