BWR (Boiling Water Resistant — IS:303) can withstand moderate moisture but is not fully waterproof. BWP (Boiling Water Proof — IS:710) is tested by boiling sheets in water for 72+ hours — the veneer layers must not delaminate. BWP is the correct specification for kitchen carcasses, bathroom furniture and wet area applications.

BWP plywood is suitable for exterior applications that are sheltered from direct rain — carports, covered balcony storage, exterior door frames. For truly outdoor exposure, marine grade (void-free core) is more appropriate. Neither should be left fully exposed to rain without a protective surface finish.
